Texan cross country moves up to No. 5 in regional rankings

Complete Regional Rankings

NEW ORLEANS - The Tarleton Texan cross country team moved up one spot to No. 5 in the south central region in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) regional rankings released by the league office on Tuesday.

The Texans, ranked No. 23 in the nation, are coming off a first-place win at the North Texas Cross Country Invitational in Denton last Friday.  Jared McNeil finished first-place overall in the men's race with fellow Texans Gerzain Valenzuela (2nd), Chris Hearell (4th), Ryan Quezada (5th) and Westyn Rosilies (6th) right behind him helping Tarleton capture it's second straight title in Denton.

Abilene Christian (1st) and Central Missouri (2nd) remained at the top of this week's poll, while Pittsburg State fell three spots from third to sixth.  That allowed Southwest Baptist (3rd), Missouri Southern State (4th) and Tarleton all to move up one spot from last week.  Eastern New Mexico jumped into the seventh spot in this week's poll following a non-ranking last week.  Truman State stayed at No. 8 this week while Emporia State jumped from 10th to the No. 9 spot.  Northwest Missouri fell a spot to No. 10, rounding out this week's poll.

The Texans return to action this Saturday, Oct. 10 at the ACU Naimadu Classic.  The first race is scheduled to begin at 11:55 a.m. at Grover Nelson Park in Abilene.
