STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton TexAnn women's basketball team got the chance to donn their new uniforms and participate in their first live game action of the 2009-10 season on Tuesday, as they earned a 69-41 victory over the Texas-Dallas Comets in an exhibition game at Wisdom Gym.

Brittnie Haley, seeing her first action in a little over a year and a half, and Tori Skarke each scored a game-high 13 points in the win.

Tarleton took a 35-22 lead into halftime on the strength of Tara Towns' eight points after going 3-for-4 from the field.  She was 2-for-3 beyond the arc and had one offensive rebound at the break as well.  Skarke and Shelby Adamson had seven points each at the intermission with Adamson tallying four assists in the first-half as well.

The TexAnns outscored the Comets 34-19 in the second-half, limiting the visiting team to just 27.3 percent shooting from the field.  The Tarleton defense forced 29 turnovers and held UT-Dallas to just 31.8 percent shooting for the entire game.  The TexAnns were able to score 27 points on Comet turnovers, scoring 12 points via the fastbreak.

Tarleton grabbed 38 rebounds total with 15 of them coming on offense, while collecting 13 second-chance points.  Haley brought down a game-high seven rebounds on her own.

The TexAnns outscored the Comets, 28-21, coming off the bench with Kelsey Benford and Towns leading the charge with eight points each.

Tarleton shot just 3-of-15 from beyond the arc, but managed to convert 20-of-30 from the free-throw line.  Adamson (3-3) and Benford (4-4) were both perfect at the line.

UT-Dallas, the No. 17 ranked team in the NCAA Division III preseason poll, was led by Chelsea Edwards who finished the game with eight points on 4-of-10 shooting.  Lauren Hale led the Comets with six rebounds.

The TexAnns will return to the court next Tuesday, Nov. 17 in their season-opener as they host Texas-Permian Basin.  Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Wisdom Gym.
