TexAnn Basketball inks two players during early signing period

STEPHENVILLE – Two players have signed National Letters of Intent to play basketball next season at Tarleton, head coach Ronnie Hearne announced Monday. Jordyn Johnson and Kiara Wright will both join the TexAnns for the 2010-11 season.

Johnson, a senior from Pflugerville, averaged just over 13 points per game as a sophomore and junior and was named her team's offensive player of the year. As a junior at Hendrickson High School she was named the team's Most Valuable Player as well. Johnson was a two-time, second team all-district selection following her first two seasons before being named to the first team following her junior season. For her career, she averaged 1.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game and shot 72.0% from the free throw line.

"Jordan is a bigger guard that can do everything," Hearne said.  "She can see the floor well and she can break people down off the dribble.  We are excited to have her and look forward to seeing her make an immediate impact when she gets on campus."

Wright, a senior from Pittsburg, was a first team all-district selection and was named her district's MVP following her junior season after recording 18.5 points and 10.5 rebounds. She was named the offensive player of the year as a sophomore after scoring 15.0 points per game and bringing down 8.0 rebounds per contest. Wright started all four seasons on the varsity squad and played volleyball and competed in track & field as well.

"Kiara is a tall and very physical presence inside the paint," Hearne said.  "She comes from a good backgound of athletes with her mom having played at Central Oklahoma and her brother playing football for Baylor.  She has a lot of experience at the post position and will add some to depth to that position over the next four years."
