TexAnns sign two for softball

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton head softball coach Julie Mata announced the signings of two Connors State College transfers for the 2010-11 school year. Samantha Swanda and Alexandria Orf signed paperwork as part of the early signing period.
Orf, a native of Apache, Oklahoma, is both an infielder and an outfielder.
She averaged .376 from the plate in 165 at-bats. She had 26 doubles and 37 runs batted in last season as a freshman at CSC. Orf also was perfect in stolen bases (6-6).
“Alexandria is an outstanding addition to our team,” Mata said. "She is an excellent student and an intelligent athlete on the field as well. She is a great communicator and will be a strong leader. She is consistent both offensively and defensively and should figure very prominently into our lineup in 2011.”
Swanda, a pitcher at CSC, is a native of Appache, Okla. She averaged .488 from the plate in 168 at-bats. She hit 15 home runs, 16 doubles, one triple, 57 RBI and 42 runs.
In the circle, Swanda had a 1.42 earned run average, 18 wins, 177 innings pitched, 162 strikeouts, 66 walks and a .940 fielding percentage last season.
“Samantha will bring so much to our 2011 team,” Mata said. “As an offensive power, she'll be huge in our lineup, while also becoming a major force on our pitching staff. She's a very competitive, intelligent and will be a good leader both on and off the field.”

The two transfers join Kelsey Latta as early signees.
The TexAnns are set to start the season at Southeastern Oklahoma on Feb. 2.
