Lindholm named Second Team All-American

WICHITA FALLS – Tarleton kicker Garrett Lindholm has been named to the Daktronics, Inc., Division II All-America Second Team for his efforts on the gridiron this season.

The Texan, a senior from Pflugerville, is the first Tarleton football player to be named an All-American since Ranardrick Phillips was dubbed a first teamer on two different teams in 2007.

Lindholm set a new school record twice this season for longest field goals, and hit the second longest field goal in NCAA Division II history in the playoff game at Texas A&M-Kingsville.  The kicker nailed a 64-yard kick to send the game into overtime – which the Texans eventually won in the second extra session, 57-56.  The mark was the longest in Division II playoff history.

Lindholm finished the season as the team's leading scorer with 88 points.  He was 15-of-18 in field goals and 43-of-45 in extra point attempts.  His 83.3 percent in field goals included perfect shots from 20-29 (three), 30-39 (five) and 50-99 (two).  He was five-of-eight from 40-49, but he was six-of-eight from 44-yards or longer.

Lindholm was also one of the best kickoff specialists in the country, averaging 63.4 yards per kick.  He had 22 touchbacks and kicked off 77 times for 4,884 yards.  The kicker also posted six tackles on special teams, five solo and one assisted stop.

Lindholm was previously named to the Daktronics All-Super Region Four team and was a first team All-Lone Star Conference South Division selection this season.

This is the 17th year the Daktronics All-America team has been selected by a vote of sports information directors from NCAA Divi¬sion II football playing members. The team is sponsored by Dak¬tronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. Voting for the all-region and All-American teams is powered by ATHLETIC¬SITE.COM.

In all 54 players were selected from 36 schools with 36 of them seniors, 14 juniors, four sophomores and a freshman.
