SAN ANTONIO – The No. 7 Tarleton TexAnn golf team opened the 2010 spring schedule Monday with a 299 at the Lady Rattler Roundup in San Antonio, good enough to finish atop the standings on the first day of competition.

The TexAnns are nine strokes better than second place Northeastern State (308) as the two teams fought through the bitter cold weather Monday at The Republic Golf Club.  Angelo State (315), St. Edward's (320), West Texas A&M (324), St. Mary's (328), Western New Mexico (332), Incarnate Word (332), Hawaii-Hilo (348), Southwestern Oklahoma (354) and Texas A&M-International (417) round out the field.

Tarleton's Melanie Tham is tied with NSU's Whitney McAteer for first place individually with a 73.  Tarleton Jacqueline Lau is in third with a 74 while Carla Cooper is tied for fourth with a 75.  Both Andrea Lowe and Katy Ward are tied for seventh with a 77.

Depending on the weather, the tournament will resume with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
