Texans fall to Rams on Tuesday

Box Score

STEPHENVILLE – Chris Patton and Chris Casazza each homered, but it wasn't enough as Tarleton fell in non-conference action to Texas Wesleyan, 12-7, at Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex in Stephenville on Tuesday.

The Texans (13-16) scored four runs in the second inning to take a 4-1 advantage, but the Rams (15-9) countered with two-run innings in both the third and fourth innings.

With the game tied 5-5 in bottom of the fourth inning, Patton took the first pitch he saw over the right field fence for his first career home run and then two batters later, Casazza took a 2-2 pitch over the left field fence that put the Texans on top 7-5.

TWU put up two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 9-7 lead and then added a run in the seventh to go up 10-7. The Rams score two more runs in the top of the eighth inning and TWU's pitching closed out the Texans in the final two innings and ended up with the five-run win.

Tarleotn's Chris Pearson (ND) started the game for the Texans and went 3.2 innings while allowing five runs on eight hits. The Texans were then forced to use position players to pitch the rest of the way. Landon McCall (0-1) took the loss after coming into the game in the fourth inning and working the next 3.1 innings allowing five runs on seven hits. Charlie Ulbricht closed out the game for the Texans, going 2.0 innings and allowing a pair of runs on five hits and striking out two batters.

Nolan Barbee (1-0) picked up the win in relief for the Rams after pitching 3.0 innings of shutout ball. He gave up a pair of hits, walked one and struck out three. Drew Cavender and Matt Chutchian closed out the game for the Rams working an inning each and not allowing any hits.

The Texans will return to Lone Star Conference action this weekend with a four-game set against Texas A&M-Kingsville at Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex. First pitch of Friday's doubleheader is set for 3 p.m.
