SAN ANGELO – The Tarleton Track & Field teams recorded six provisional marks and brought home seven first-place finishes, which helped lead the men's team to a second-place finish and the women's team to a third-place finish at the 2010 David Noble/Angleo State Relays at LeGrand Sports Complex in San Angelo on Saturday.

The Texans, ranked No. 14 in the nation, tallied 145 total points to finish runner-up to meet hosts, Angelo State. The TexAnns meanwhile recorded 95 points to finish behind Texas A&M-Kingsville (108) and meet winner ASU (271).

Six of the seven gold medal performances came in the running events as Courtney Newsom got things going with a first-place finish in the women's 400m with a time of 58.14. Junior All-Amercian Kandis Brooks then took first-place nods in the women's 100m hurdles as she bettered her NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time, finishing the event in 14.00.

Chris Hearell picked up the men's first gold medal of the day after taking top honors in the men's 1500m with a time of 4:00.68. Senior All-American Garrett Thomas recorded his fifth win of the season in the men's 110m hurdles as he finished with a provisional time of 14.37. Westyn Rosilies added another gold medal to Tarleton's day with a first-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing in a time of 9:52.71 and Gerzain Valenzuela topped the day off with a first-place finish in the men's 5000m with a time of 15:16.57.

Tarleton tallied eight second-place and seven third-place finishes on the day, including Elizabeth Dominguez' second-place honors in the women's shot put as she tossed a season-best and provisional mark of 43.97m.

Nolan Eubanks and Casey Keeter each finished second and third, respectfully, after recording provisional marks in the men's discus event. Eubanks had a toss of 51.10m, while Keeter had a mark of 49.38m. Both athletes had already recorded provisional marks this season. Eubanks set an automatic qualifying mark last week in Abilene.

Both men's and women's teams return to action again next Saturday, April 17, at the Michael Johnson Invitational at Baylor's Hart-Patterson Track Complex in Waco.
