STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton head track & field coach Pat Ponder announced the signing of two high school female athletes, Celeste Meyer and Derekia Coleman, of National Letters of Intent to run for Tarleton in 2010-11.
“Signing these two young ladies is a great start for the 2010 signing class,” Ponder said. “We look forward to getting them on campus next fall.”
Meyer, a distance runner from Florence, lettered in both cross country and track all four years in high school. She was a class 2A state cross country meet qualifier all four years and finished 25th at the state meet as a senior. She qualified for the state meet in track last spring and finished third overall in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:26.64.
Coleman was the 2009 class 3A state champion in the girl's 200 meter dash, finishing the event in 25.09. She placed fifth in the 100 meter dash at the state meet, finishing with a time of 12.19.
Both athletes will begin classes and join their respective teams in the fall.
