Stephenville standout signs to play with TexAnns

STEPHENVILLE – Stephenville High School basketball player Brianna Bledsoe signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Tarleton women's basketball 2010-11 signing class, head coach Ronnie Hearne announced on Wednesday. She becomes the third player to sign as part of Tarleton's 2010-11 recruiting class.

Bledsoe, a 5-7 wing player, averaged 20.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists as a senior and guided the Honeybees to a 25-9 record and a trip to the state regional quarterfinals. In the area championship game against Springtown, Bledsoe poured in seven straight points to push an eight-point lead into a comfortable 15 point margin and finished the game with nearly 50 percent of her team's points, scoring 25 in the 52-44 win. Bledsoe averaged 22.3 points a contest in three playoff games her senior season.

As a senior, Bledsoe shot 47 percent from the floor, which included a 40 percent three-point field goal percentage. She converted 90 percent of her shots from the free-throw line as well.

A first team all-district selection as both a junior and senior, Bledsoe was also named a first team all-state selection by the Texas Girls Coaches Association as a senior. Other accolades for the basketball standout included academic all-district honors, as well as a Texas Association of Basketball Coaches first team all-region selection.

In addition to her post season awards, Bledsoe was named Most Valuable Player at both the Granbury/Cross Timbers Tournament and the Mineral Wells All-Star game.

“Brianna is an outstanding young lady,” Hearne said. “She excels on the court and in the classroom. She is an excellent shooter and has a good understanding of the game. We are excited about having Brianna in our program and what she brings to the team.”

Bledsoe joins a recruiting class that includes Kiara Wright (Post/Forward, Pittsburg) and Jordyn Johnson (Guard, Pflugerville). All three players will begin working out with the team next fall.
