STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton men's and women's track & field teams will travel to Waco this Saturday, April 17 to compete in the 2010 Michael Johnson Invitational at Baylor's Hart-Patterson Track & Field Complex.
Both teams are coming off impressive performances at the David Noble/Angelo State Relays in San Angelo last weekend. The men finished second overall and the women finished third while bringing home a total of 22 top-three performances which included seven first-place finishes. Tarleton tallied six provisional marks/times as well.
Tarleton had 10 top-five finishers at last season's Michael Johnson Invitational, which was highlighted by Jared McNeil's first-place finish in the men's 1500m Collegiate Invitational with a time of 3:48.75.
Chris Haerell (1500m) and Kolin Styles (5000m) each had silver medal finishes on the day and Gerzain Valenzuela (5000m) brought home Tarleton's lone bronze medal performance.
Other top-five finishes last year included Shadoh Campbell (4th, 1500m), Westyn Rosilies (5000m), Tyler Rushing (4th, high jump), Casey Keeter (5th, shot put), Kandis Brooks (5th, 100m hurdles) and Garrett Thomas (110m hurdles).
Saturday's field events are scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m. Preliminary running events are set to begin at 11 a.m. with finals scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
