Track & Field compete at Michael Johnson Classic

WACO – The Tarleton Track & Field teams had three top-three finishes and 15 top-10 performances at a rain-shortened Michael Johnson Classic at Baylor's Hart-Patterson Track & Field Complex in Waco on Saturday.

 

Tarleton's athletes had to battle the elements all day and the meet was eventually cancelled due to lightning in the area at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday evening.

 

Before shutting things down, Tarleton had a silver medal performance and a pair of bronze medal finishers. Hayden Eubanks placed second in the discus event with a toss of 46.30m, while Westyn Rosilies placed third in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 9:30.60 and Casey Keeter coming in third in the shot put with a throw of 16.05m.

 

Other top-five finishes for Tarleton included Kandis Brooks finishing fifth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.41, Chris Haerell coming in fourth in the 1500m run with a time of 3:57.78 and Nolan Eubanks coming in fourth in the discus with a throw of 43.88m.

 

Elizabeth Dominguez had a pair of top-10 finishes in both the shot put (12.43m) and discus (40.58m) on the day, as did N. Eubanks who also finished ninth in the shot put (15.23m). Tyler Stowell had a couple of top-10 finishes as well with a sixth-place finish in the discus (43.10m) and hammer throw (43.65m).

 

Leslie Jordan finished eighth in the shot put (12.88m) and Garrett Thomas placed fourth in the 110m hurdles (14.70m). Over in the high jump, Cyler Matlock had his best finish of the season with a sixth-place finish (1.90m) and Aaron Shickedanz finished seventh (1.85m) to round out the best performances of the day.

 

Both men's and women's teams will return to action in a couple of weeks. A group of athletes will travel to Abilene on Saturday, May 1,to participate in the Oliver Jackson Invitational at Abilene Christian, while another group travels to Austin to compete in the Texas Invite.
