Men take second, women finish third at McMurry Relays

ABILENE – The Tarleton Track & Field teams competed at the McMurry Relays at Wilford Moore Stadium in Abilene on Thursday with the men taking second-place overall and the women coming in third.

 

The Texans finished the day with eight top-three finishes including two gold medal performances, while the TexAnns finished strong with five top-three finishes and one first-place honor. Two provisional marks were set on the day as well.

 

The men were led by Tyler Rushing's first-place finish in the men's high jump with a vault of 1.95m and Gerzain Valenzuela's top placement in the 5000m run (15.33.88).

 

Chris Haerell had a pair of second-place finishes in the 1500m run (4:02.56) and coming in right behind Valenzuela in the 5000m (15:35.29). Westyn Rosilies finished third in the 5000m (15:47.51) as Tarleton locked up the one-two-three finish in the event.

 

Junior All-American Casey Keeter placed second in the shot put (16.38m) with a another provisional mark, but was the top thrower amongst collegiate athletes as the top performer competed unattached.

 

Nolan Eubanks picked up a third-place finish in the discus throw (54.75m), netting his first provisional mark of the season. He too was the top collegiate athlete in the event as the top two competitors were unattached as well.

 

Rounding out the men's top-three performances on the day was the 4x400m relay team composed of Aaron Donohue, Jamal Mays, Sherraud Roberts and Austin Griffin. The team finished second in the event with a time of 3:18.97.

 

Elizabeth Dominguez picked up the TexAnns only gold medal of the day as she won the discus with a throw of 40.78m.

 

Other field event performers included Leslie Jordan taking third-place in both the hammer throw (42.35m) and shot put where she set a provisional mark of 13.31m.

 

The TexAnn running events included a third-place finish by Danitra Marshall in the women's 400m dash with a time of 59.36 and the women's 4x400m relay team taking home second-place honors with a time of 4:00.49. The team was made up of Claire Goodman, Marshall, Courtney Newsom and Chelsea Hutchinson.

 

The teams will return to action next Saturday, April 10, in San Angelo for the Angelo State Relays.
