Schindler adds Waynes to 2010 roster

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton head volleyball coach Mary Schindler has announced the signing of Breawn Waynes to play for the TexAnns beginning in the fall of 2010.

“Bre is a very athletic student-athlete who has experience being a leader on the court and we look to her for immediate contributions,” Schindler said. “She will primarily play the outside/rightside, but she is a very versatile player who can play any position on the floor. I look forward to getting Bre on campus and involved in our strength program as she will certainly thrive. She is quick and explosive and will bring a strong court presence to our team.”

Waynes, a 5-7 outside hitter, transfers to Tarleton after playing her sophomore season at Eastfield College in Mesquite, where she earned first team all-conference and all-region honors after collecting 314 kills, 40 aces, 336 digs and 26 blocks.

Before transferring to Eastfield, Waynes spent her freshman season playing at Southwestern Oklahoma. She collected 212 kills and tallied 99 digs in 102 games for the Bulldogs. She added four assists and a total of 26 blocks her freshman year as well.

Waynes was a varsity letterwinner for three years while attending Mesquite High School. She was a first team all-district selection her senior year and was named offensive player of the year after guiding her team to an undefeated season in 12-5A district play. Tarleton's newest recruit also lettered in basketball and track while at Mesquite and was a member of the National Honor Society.

Waynes played club ball for Xtreme Power in 2005, Dallas Juniors in 2006 and Texas Assault in 2007.

She is the daughter of Rick and Loretta Waynes, who reside in Mesquite.
