EDMOND, Okla. – The Tarleton Texan baseball team completed its Lone Star Conference series against Central Oklahoma with a sweep of the Bronchos at Broncho Field in Edmond, Okla., on Saturday.

The Texans took game one 6-5 on the strength of Jake Sowell's 5.2 innings of work and with Nathan Lewis coming in to get his fifth save of the victory as he worked the final 1.1 innings.

Tarleton scored a pair of runs in the top of the first, but then fell behind when UCO put up three runs in the bottom of the inning. The Texans countered with a three-spot of their own to take a 5-3 lead and never looked back.

UCO did manage to scrape across another run in the bottom of the second to make it a one-run game, but Junnior Dishmey singled and later scored on Mark Jeffery's single to score an all-important sixth run of the game in the fifth inning.

The Bronchos managed to get in another run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Lewis came in to shut the Bronchos down.

Sowell is now 4-2 on the season with the win and UCO's Tyler Schuman fell to 1-3 after taking the loss.

Tarleton was up 2-1 in the top of third inning in game two before a seven-run third inning put the Texans well on top, 9-1.

The Texans added two more runs in the fourth inning, four in the fifth, three in the sixth and another two runs in the seventh and the game was called after the seven innings due to the 10-run rule.

All 10 Texan batters that came to the plate had at least one hit, while Dishmey, Chris Casazza and Zane Hensley each had three hits apiece in the game.

Tarleton had seven extra-base hits that included Taylor James going yard and Casazza doing the same, twice.

Casazza finished the game with nine runs batted in, coming within two of tying the school record of 11 RBI. Dishmey has now hit safely in his last 11 games.

The Texans improved to 18-20 overall and 15-17 in the LSC, moving them into sixth place in the conference - one game ahead of Southwestern Oklahoma (13-18 LSC) and a half game ahead of Texas A&M-Kingsville (16-18 LSC). UCO fell to 11-20 overall and 8-20 in the LSC.

The Texans return to the diamond on Tuesday, April 6, with a non-conference home game against St. Mary's. Tarleton will then host SWOSU for a very important LSC series this weekend in Stephenville.
