STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton head women's basketball coach Ronnie Hearne has announced the signing of Crystal Atwood to a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the TexAnns beginning in the fall of 2010.
“Crystal is a versatile player who will play the four position and possibly the wing position in the future,” Hearne said. “She comes from an outstanding program at Georgetown and is a quality student in the classroom. We are looking forward to getting her on campus.”
Atwood will join the TexAnns after playing varsity basketball at Georgetown High School where she helped lead the Lady Eagles to a 105-30 record during her career. She guided her team to a 14-0 district record her senior season, which led to the Lady Eagles to winning the District 16-5A Championship. From there, Atwood and her team went on to become region semifinalist and finish the 2009-10 season with a 31-4 overall record.
Atwood, a 5-10 forward, was named first team all-district her senior season and was a Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) All-Region selection out of Region II. The incoming freshman was also named an all-state selection by both the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) and Texas Basketball Magazine.
Atwood, who excelled both on the court and in the classroom, was also named to district (16-5A) and state (TGCA) all-academic teams in 2010.
Atwood, a four-year letterwinner for the Lady Eagles, ranks inside the top-10 in many of Georgetown's all-time records which includes career starts (8th, 101), career wins (6th, 105) and most points in a game (T-4th, 32, vs. Westfield on Feb. 19, 2008).
Atwood is the fifth newest TexAnn to join the 2010-11 roster. She joins Kimber Koonsman (Guard/Meridian), Brianna Bledsoe (Guard/Stephenville), Kiara Wright (Post/Forward, Pittsburg) and Jordyn Johnson (Guard, Pflugerville). She will begin working out with the TexAnns this upcoming fall semester.
