RICHARDSON – Tarleton had three track & field athletes earn Lone Star Conference All-Academic accolades the league office announced Wednesday.
Senior high jumper, Tyler Rushing, junior sprinter, Sherraud Roberts, and sophomore distance runner, Katherine Grillo, were each named to this year's academic commissioner's honor roll for their outstanding performance both on the track and in the classroom.
Angelo State's Brian Holik and Sara Hooker were named LSC Academic Athletes of the Year on Wednesday. Holik was joined by 10 other track and field standouts on the LSC Men's All-Academic Team, while Hooker, who earned her second straight academic athlete of the year honor, led a group of 11 stars on the LSC Women's All-Academic Team.
In addition to the 22 men and women on the All-Academic Teams, 21 more student-athletes were recognized on the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement. All qualifying student-athletes not selected for the All-Academic Team are then named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
