LSC Track Championships 2010

Track & Field set to compete in LSC Championships this weekend

SAN ANGELO – The Tarleton Track & Field teams will head to San Angelo this weekend to compete in the 2010 Lone Star Conference Championships that are set to get underway on Friday, May 7, at LeGrand Sports Complex on the Angelo State campus.

 

Both men's and women's teams have had a successful regular season with Tarleton having already provisionally qualified nine different athletes for Nationals, which includes one automatic qualifier.

 

Heading into the conference meet, All-Americans Jared McNeil, Garrett Thomas and Casey Keeter each hold down the No. 1 spot in the LSC in their respective events. McNeil ranks first in both the 800m (1:52.87) and 1500m (3:49.26), while Thomas ranks above all LSC athletes in the 110m hurdles (14.22). Keeter tops the LSC in the shot put (16.67m) and currently ranks seventh in the discus (51.16m).

 

Nolan Eubanks, Tarleton's lone automatic qualifier, ranks first in both the LSC and the nation with his toss of 54.75m in the discus event. His brother Hayden Eubanks ranks fifth in the LSC in the discus (52.49m) as well.

 

All-American Kandis Brooks headlines the women's qualifiers as she currently ranks second in the LSC in the 100m hurdles (14.00). Meredeth Persinger heads into the weekend ranked third in the conference in the shot put (13.44m), while teammates Leslie Jordan (13.31m) and Elizabeth Dominguez (13.30m) follow right behind her ranked fourth and fifth, respectfully. Dominguez has also provisionally qualified in the discus event and ranks fourth in the LSC with a toss of 43.97m).

 

Both teams finished third overall at last season's LSC Championships. The Texans tallied 126 points to finish behind LSC Champions, Abilene Christian (238) and Angelo State (138). The TexAnns accumulated 84 overall points behind LSC Champions, ASU (331) and ACU (175).

 

Multi-event athletes (Heptathlon and Decathlon) will get underway on Friday, while individual events are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday, beginning with field events (hammer, triple jump, pole vault, shot put). Most preliminary running events will get underway at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening with a few variable finals scheduled as well. Sunday's field events (javelin, long jump, discus, high jump) will begin at noon, with running finals scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
