Julie Mata has announced the signing of Abi Tammen to a national letter-of-intent.
Tammen, a transfer from McClennan Community College, will be a junior outfielder for the TexAnns in 2010-11.
“Abi is a great addition to our team,” Mata said. “She comes from such a successful, well-coached MCC program and will add both offensive punch to our lineup and strength to our outfield. She's talented, smart and just a likeable, hardworking player who seems to genuinely love the game. I really look forward to having her on our team.”
The native of Hutto Texas had a .393 batting average in 45 games and had a team-high 35 runs batted in. She had 10 doubles, nine triples, one home run and 37 runs scored.
As a freshman in 2009, Tammen had a .289 batting average with 11 RBI and 12 stolen bases while appearing in 48 of the Highlassies' 60 games. She was a second team ll-conference selection and a member of the Region V North squad for the Texas Junior College Softball Coaches Association Sophomore All-Star weekend.
In high school, Tammen recorded a .373 batting average with six home runs as a senior. She was named the 2007-08 Hutto High School Female Athlete of the Year. She was also named the District 18-3A Defensive Most Valuable Player and was selected to the All-Star North Team. Tammen was a three-time all-district selection in basketball and a three-time academic all-district honoree as well. Picked as a member of “Who's Who Among American High School Students” and received the Economics Achievement Award. Tammen is also a Texas High School Rodeo Association letterman.
The newest TexAnn is the daughter of Skip and Debra Timmen and the sister of one brother, Denton.
