Baseball still going on for many Texan players

STEPHENVILLE - For many baseball players, the game continues long after the final out of the regular or post seasons. Tarleton's season ended at the Lone Star Conference tournament on May 3, but for 12 Texan baseball players - the season still plays on.

Nine Texan players from the 2010 squad along with three incoming Texan players are currently playing in collegiate wooden bat leagues around the nation.

All-American third baseman Chris Casazza and second team all-LSC second base selection Junnior Dishmey are currently playing for the Bellingham Bells of the West Coast Collegiate League. The Texan duo has helped guide the Bells to a current record of 8-8 on the season.

First baseman Zane Hensley and outfielder Andrew Wolfe are both playing in the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League this summer. Hensley plays for the Waikiki Surfers, while Wolfe plays for the Kamuela Paniolos. Current stats were unavailable at the time of this release.

Shortstop Nathan Hillie plays for the Gastonia Grizzlies out of the Coastal Plain League. He has helped guide the Grizzlies to a 15-8 summer record.

Catcher Mark Jeffery, a second team all-LSC selection, plays for the New Jersey Pilots of the Atlantic Coast Baseball League, while fellow catcher Andrew Kapple plays for the Regina Red Sox of the Western Major Baseball League. Kapple and the Red Sox are currently 12-2 and atop the standings in the East Division.

Pitcher Kenneth Stockton is pitching for the Xenia Scouts of the Great Lakes Summer League. Standings were unavailable on the GLSL website.

The newest Texans, Reagan Janda, Ryan Turner and Ethan Stuckly are also having success in the wooden bat leagues this summer.

Janda plays for the Austin Gold Sox of the Centex Collegiate Baseball League (formerly the Zaragoza League). Janda is ranked third on the team with a current .349 batting average and has helped guide the Gold Sox to a 10-1 record on the season.

Turner and Stuckly are competing against each other in the Texas Collegiate League this summer. Turner plays for the Victoria Generals and has dominated so far this summer. He is 1-0 with a 0.00 earned run average and has struck out 15 batters in just 7.2 innings of work. The Generals are currently 10-6 this summer. Stuckly meanwhile plays for the McKinney Marshalls and has led his team to a 9-8 record.
