Pair of Texans named to summer all-star teams

STEPHENVILLE - Tarleton's Mark Jeffery and Ryan Turner have each been named All-Stars in their respective summer leagues this off-season.

Jeffery, a catcher/designated hitter for the Texans this past season, is hitting .274 with 17 hits in 62 plate appearances for the Toms River (N.J.) Hurricanes this summer. Jeffery has a pair of doubles, 12 runs batted in and has scored seven runs so far this season to help lead the Hurricanes to a 14-7 record and a first-place lead in the Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League (ABCCL).

The ABCCL's all-star game will be held at Waterfront Park in Trenton, N.J., on Monday, July 19.

Turner, who signed to play for the Texans next spring, is currently playing for the Victoria Generals in the Texas Collegiate League. Turner currently has a 1-0 record with a 0.00 earned run average. He has struck out 25 batters in just 13.2 innings of work. Opposing hitters are batting just .092 against the incoming Texan.

Turner was a member of the TCL South team in the all-star game that was played at Riverside Stadium in Victoria on July 5. Turner pitched a full inning of work and walked one batter.
