2011 Texan Baseball Preview- Infielders

This week, we will take an inside look at the 2011 Texan Baseball team, broken down by position.

Today, we will look at the middle infielders and corner infielders for Tarleton.

Middle Infield
Sophomore Landon McCall was a surprise for Coach Conger in his ability to produce right away for Tarleton.  He is one of the most improved Texans and will be seeing time at second base this season.  McCall is quick on the bases and an all-around good defender.  He will be a spark plug for Tarleton with his old school style of play.
Senior Nathan Hille is coming off ankle surgery in the off-season and is expected to be the starting shortstop from day one.  He makes even the difficult plays seem easy in the infield and will be a consistent part of Tarleton's defense.  Hille has shown this fall that he has regained his footwork and the ability to drive off the injured ankle, which is a good sign for the Texans.

Corner Infield
Senior Zane Hensley will be returning to first base after hitting .382 for the Texans in 2010.  Hensley shows good range at first with quick feet and above average defensive skills.  He is one of Tarleton's big left-handed bats and will be expected to hit in the middle of the line-up.  His veteran presence and big bat will be an integral part of the Texans' success this season.
Senior Junnior Dishmey is entering 2011 healthy after being hampered in 2010 with a number of injuries.  Dishmey will see time at second base, but will mainly be used at third base.  Despite being injured last season, he led the team with a .436 average and will be the lead-off hitter for Tarleton.  Dishmey has a wide range defensively, but also uses his speed to be dangerous in the stolen base department.  Being a switch hitter and having the ability to play a number of posistions, Dishmey will be a versatile weapon in Tarleton's arsenal.
Senior Chris Casazza is coming off a career year where he not only led the team in a number of hitting categories, but also received a plethora of awards for his efforts in his junior year.  After hitting 16 home runs and driving in 59 last year, Casazza will be batting in the 3-4 holes this year, providing the pop the Texans need in the middle of their line-up.  Defensively, Tarleton is hoping to split his time between third base and rightfield to make sure they get his bat in the game as much as possible.
Other Texans that will see time in the infield are junior Ethan Stuckly, junior Travis Hayes, and junior Reagan Janda.  Stuckly will also see time in the outfield, since Tarleton can really use his pure left-handed swing at the No. 2 spot in their line-up.  Hayes will be used at third base or short and is expected to compete for some serious playing time at those positions.  Janda is a third baseman by nature, but will be a major part of the designated hitter position in the Texans' batting order.  He was brought in to primarily give Casazza protection by hitting in the 4-5 holes and providing Tarleton's line-up with a boost of power.

Check back tomorrow when take an in-depth look at the outfielders for the upcoming season.
