Texans return to national playoffs as No. 3-seed

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The No. 15 Tarleton State's men's basketball team is headed back to the South Central Region tournament for the eighth time in 10 years when the NCAA Division II playoffs begin Saturday, March 12.

The eight-region, 64-team national playoff bracket was unveiled online by the NCAA in a special selection show Sunday night.

The South Central Region tournament will be hosted by top-seed Central Oklahoma, which knocked off Tarleton in Sunday's Lone Star Conference Championship.

Tarleton earned the No. 3 seed and begins tournament action against sixth-seeded Midwestern State, a team the Texans have defeated three times this season.

Between UCO and Tarleton is No. 2 Missouri Southern. Behind the Texans as the No. 4 - No. 8 seeds are Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association champion Fort Hays State, West Texas A&M, MSU, Washburn and Heartland Conference champ Texas A&M-International.

Despite losing to UCO Sunday, the Texans enter the event as one of the region's hottest teams. They went 13-1 in the LSC South Division, earning their fifth divisional title since joining the LSC in 1994-95.

Tarleton has won the South Central Region and advanced to the Elite Eight twice - first in 2005 when the Texans went on to the Final Four, and again in 2006.

Following is a list of Saturday's first-round match-ups:

1 Central Oklahoma (28-3)
8 Texas A&M-International (21-9)

4 Fort Hays State (25-6)
5 West Texas A&M (23-6)
