Jordan, Coleman shine at David Noble Relays in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO – The Tarleton men's and women's track and field teams finished competition at the David Noble/Angelo State Relays Saturday in San Angelo with five individuals setting personal records. Meanwhile, Leslie Jordan reached a provisional qualifying mark in the shot put.

The Texans and TexAnns had five athletes achieve personal bests en route to a fifth place finish for the men and a third place finish for the women.

Jordan became Tarleton's fifth athlete to qualify for nationals with a throw of 13.51 meters in the shot put. This set a new personal record for Jordan in the event as well.

Derekia Coleman improved on her personal best in the 100-meter dash, running the event in 11.81 seconds and finishing second overall. On top of that, she also provisionally qualified in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.09 that gave the Fairfield native a first-place finish and a new Tarleton school record.

Shabrina McAdams achieved a personal best of her own in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.92. That gave McAdams a fourth place finish.

In the men's shot put, not only did Hayden Eubanks set a new personal record in a event, but also Eli Pratt set a new personal best as well in the event. Eubanks recorded a 15.82-meter performance while Pratt picked up a 13.81-meter showing. Eubanks picked up second place overall and Pratt finished in fifth.

Tarleton also got a number of other strong performances with the following top five finishes.

In the women's 800-meter run, Kyndall Trnka won the event with a time of 2:32.35.

In the women's 1500-meter run, Lindsey Hinton came in fifth place with a time of 4:56.32. She also finished fifth in the 5000-meter run in 18:39.55.

In the women's 3000-meter steeplechase, Katherine Grillo came in fourth overall (12:45.21).

In the women's shot put, an event in which Jordan came in first, Elizabeth Dominguez (12.42m) came in fourth and Meredeth Persinger (11.95m) rounded out the top five. Dominguez also finished fifth overall in the discus throw with a 41.99-meter performance.

In the men's 1500-meter run, Chris Hearell came in fifth with a time of 4:09.69.

In the men's 5000-meter run, Kolin Styles finished second overall.

In the men's 400-meter hurdles, provisional qualifier Jeff Smith came in fourth place with a time of 54.51.

In the men's 3000-meter steeplechase, Logan Mynar finished second overall (10:20.34).

In the men's high jump, Cyler Matlock and Tyler Rushing both tied for third place with jumps of 1.90 meters.

In the men's discus throw, Eubanks picked up another top five finish with a third-place, 50.66-meter performance.

“We competed well,” said head coach Pat Ponder. “We had some good performances. Derekia Coleman, Hayden Eubanks, Eli Pratt, Leslie Jordan and Shabrina McAdams all got personal records. There were bits and pieces where we looked pretty good. If we can get the rest to step up to the ability they are capable of, I think we will be ok.”

The Texans and TexAnns return to action next weekend when they travel to Baylor for the Michael Johnson Invitational.
