BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Tarleton TexAnn golf team completed the second-round of play at the Viking Invitational four strokes better than Monday's first-round performance, but the squad was unable to capture the team title, finishing in third-place with a combined score of +32 (616). The tournament was held at Bellingham Golf and Country Club and was hosted by Western Washington University.
The TexAnns finished Tuesday's round just seven strokes behind tournament champion Hawaii-Hilo, who carded a team score of 299 in the final day of competition on the way to a six-stroke victory in the tournament over second-place finishers, British Columbia. Hawaii-Hilo tallied a two-day total of +24 (608), while British Columbia carded a +30 (614) in the invitational.
Tarleton's
Sharon Lau carded the lowest score for the TexAnns in the tournament, shooting a two-day total +4 (150) on her way to a third-place finish, individually.
Jessica Pickwick and Isabell Jimenez-Perea each shot +7 (153) for the tournament en route to a tie for eighth-place for both golfers.
Jacqueline Lau (+14, 160) and
Sarah Fulfer (+23, 169) rounded out the remaining scores for the TexAnns this week. Lau finished in a tie for 24
th-place, while Fulfer finished in a tie for 47
th-place.
The TexAnns have one tournament remaining on the fall schedule, as the team will travel to Fort Sill, Okla., Oct. 21-23 to participate in the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Tournament. Practice rounds will begin on Oct. 21, with the tournament to be held Oct. 22-23. The invitational will be hosted by Cameron University.
