SAN ANGELO – Chase Rathke and
Celeste Meyer led the Texans and TexAnns to a first and second place finish, respectively, in the final regular season cross country meet of the season – the Angelo State Blue and Gold – Tuesday evening.
“I'm proud of the way our teams competed tonight,” said Tarleton head coach
Pat Ponder. “But we have 10 days until the Lone Star Conference Championships and we still have a lot of work to do. We still have goals and things we want to accomplish, and we won't be satisfied with this. We're going to get back to work.”
In his first race of the season, Rathke claimed a first-place finish in the 8,000-meter event to lead Tarleton. The sophomore runner completed the race in a time of 26:41.21, while freshman Dylan Willet came in behind Rathke with a time of 26:49.37 for a season-best time in the 8K and a second-place finish.
James Polasek (27:32.83) and
Miles Joslin (27:33.75) also finished in the top 10, at sixth and seventh respectively, while
Jeffrey Currie (28:36.59),
Thorne Pettigrew (28:52.22) and
Mason Wrobel (30:26:53) finished in the top 20, at 14
th, 15
th and 19
th respectively.
Rounding out the Texan runners were
Jacob Wilson (31:04.87) in 21
st place,
Brian Cooper (32:00.97) in 23
rd place, Elliott Marshall (32:31.84) in 26
th place and
Stefan Campos (33:10.69) in 28
th place.
In the preceding women's race, the TexAnns competed in their first 6K event of the season.
Meyer finished the race in the best place of her Tarleton career, at second overall. The sophomore runner finished in a time of 23:04.24, while freshman
Katelin Huckabee finished two places behind in fourth with a time of 24:12.25.
Lauren Finley (25:15.97),
Kyndall Trnka (25:20.15) and
Karen Ramming (25:24.33) finished in a tight competition at 10
th, 11
th and 12
th place, respectively, while
Payton Shoush (25:45.34) came in 14
th place and
Ashley Husbands rounded out the TexAnn runners in 17
th place in a time of 26:16.45.
Tarleton will return to action Oct. 20 in Lawton, Oklahoma at the Lone Star Conference Championship Meet.
