INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - The Texan basketball team moved down one spot No. 2 in the South Central region rankings released Wednesday.
Tarleton is 22-4 on the season and 17-4 in South Central region action. The Texans are trailing only Midwestern St. who is No. 5 in the country and No. 1 in the region.
The Texans are ahead of Arkansas Tech, Missouri Southern and Washburn. The rest of the top 10 are Central Missouri (No. 6), Northwest Missouri St. (No. 7), Texas A&M-International (No. 8), West Texas A&M (No. 9) and Incarnate Word (No. 10). The top eight teams in the region make the NCAA Division II tournament while the No. 1 team will host the event.
Whoever wins the conference tournament from the MIAA, LSC and Heartland will make the regional automatically.
Tarleton will face Angelo State on Wednesday in San Angelo for a chance to improve their standing.
