Texans end weekend in Magnolia with loss to Muleriders

- Box Score

MAGNOLIA, ARK. – The No. 30 Tarleton baseball team left Southern Arkansas on a sour note with a 12-5 loss to the Muleriders.

The Texans faced a very talented SAU team and Sunday's contest was a sign of how well the Muleriders defended their home turf.

Tarleton managed to get a run on the board first with an RBI single by Ty Crump in the top of the second inning.

SAU woke up in the third inning however and scored four runs to take a 4-1 lead.

The Texans rallied though and tied the game up with a three-run fourth inning.  Ryan Small and Garrett Hardey led off the inning with singles.  Crump then stepped up and ripped a deep shot to left center that left the yard for a three-run shot.

Once again though, the Muleriders refused to remain silent and took back a 6-4 lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Tarleton cut the deficit to one run on an RBI single to left by Hardey in the top of the fifth.  But SAU would go on to score six runs over the next two innings and seal the Texans' fate.

In a game that saw 28 hits and 17 runs, the Tarleton squad managed to get things going offensively, but the Muleriders proved to be too much in the end.

Joseph Aquino (1-1) was saddled with the loss after giving up six runs on nine hits in five innings of work.

Janson Carr (2-0) picked up with win for SAU despite giving up a run and four hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Crump had an outstanding performance for Tarleton with a 2-for-4 outing, four RBI's and a run scored.  Hardey added an RBI of his own and a 3-for-4 day while Noah Ringenberger and Blake Silguero contributed a pair of hits each.

The Texans (4-5) will return home to host Texas Wesleyan at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at the Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex.
