TexAnns fall in home finale

- Box Score

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton (29-18, 14-10) dropped its final home game of the season Tuesday night with an 8-4 loss to Texas Woman's (34-13, 16-7).

This marks the fourth straight loss for TexAnns and the fourth straight win for Texas Woman's.

The offense struggled to get anything going after a bunt single by Arianna Rodriguez to lead off the game.

Walks by Samantha Swanda, Amber Sotelo and McKaylee Pittman were the only other base runners Tarleton could collect over the first four innings.

Meanwhile, Texas Woman's took advantage of two hits and three walks to put up a three spot in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. They added two more in the fourth to chase Randi Fentress and lead 5-0 after four.

In the fifth inning, Texas Woman's tacked on two more runs on two-out singles which allowed runs to score from second base on close plays at the plate.

Tarleton finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth when Texas Woman's walked the bases loaded with two out, setting up Swanda.

Swanda worked the count full before turning on an inside pitch and pulling it down the left field line and over the fence for her 17th home run of the season and four runs for the TexAnns.

Texas Woman's responded quickly in the ensuing half inning with a solo blast over the left field wall to extend its lead back to 8-4.

Tarleton did not record another hit after the Swanda grand slam.

Fentress took the loss after pitching 3.1 innings allowing five runs on five hits and five walks. Swanda pitched 3.2 innings of relief allowing three runs on four hits and a walk.

Rodriguez and Swanda had the only hits of the night for Tarleton but the TexAnns did manage to draw seven walks from Rodriguez, Alex Orf, Katie Welborn(2), Swanda, Sotelo, Courtney Vroman and Pittman.

The TexAnns will wrap up the regular season with a three-game series at Incarnate Word beginning with a doubleheader Friday.
