Final Results - LSC Championships
TROPHY CLUB - The Tarleton women's golf team claimed their fifth straight Lone Star Conference title on Tuesday and the sixth in school history.
The TexAnns finished the first round with a three-stroke lead and took it into the second round in which they dominated the competition. Tarleton finished with a 597 overall, 19 strokes ahead of second place Midwestern State (616).
Sharon Lau, the Academic Player of the Year in the LSC, and
Jacqueline Lau, the overall Player of the Year in the conference, led the way for Tarleton with identical scores of 148. That put them in a tie for third place on the individual side.
Katy Ward shot a 150, which was good enough for sixth place, while
Sarah Fulfer tied for 10th (152) and
Jessica Pickwick finished 14th overall (155).
Midwestern State finished second on the team side, followed by Texas A&M-Commerce, Angelo State and Cameron.
Head coach
Jerry Doyle talked about his team's performance after winning his sixth LSC title.
"I am proud of the girls for really playing well this week," said Doyle. "We had high expectations coming into the tournament, but knew there was some very tough competition we would be facing. The girls really came together and played some of the best golf they have played all season. It means a lot not only to me, but also to the university and the program."
The No. 5 TexAnns will now compete in the Regional Championships at a familiar golf course to Tarleton. Grand Canyon will host the regionals at the Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield, Arizona, a course the TexAnns played at just two weeks ago. The event will take place May 6-8.
