TexAnns find success in classroom as well

STEPHENVILLE - In addition to finding success on the softball diamond in 2012, the Tarleton TexAnns also dominated the classroom this season finishing the semester with an overall grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.

"They had a very successful year on the field, but they were just as successful in the classroom," said head coach Julie Mata. "Many times people don't realize how hard it is for student-athletes to balance a collegiate athletic season with school and work. Knowing the inside story on how hard these girls had to work to achieve these results. I'm so proud of them."

Four TexAnns - Kirby Crow, Brittany Dumas, Alex Orf and Samantha Swanda - were named to the 'A' honor roll with a perfect 4.0 semester.

Six other TexAnns were named Distinguished Students, which requires juniors and seniors to record a 3.5 gpa or higher and underclassmen to post a 3.25 or higher.

The six distinguished TexAnns were Hannah Hancock, Tanner Pipkin, Arianna Rodriguez, Shelby Tinklepaugh, Courtney Vroman and Katie Welborn, who was also named academic all-conference by the Lone Star Conference.

On the field, Tarleton won 31 games this season and advanced to the LSC Championship Tournament for the 11th time in the program's 17-year history.
