Tarleton baseball picks up five more for 2013 season

STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton baseball team added five more players to the 2013 class after the signing of five junior college transfers by head coach Bryan Conger.

Alvaro Moreno is a 5'11", 195-pound infielder from Cisco Junior College.  Originally from McAllen, Moreno is a right-handed batter that Tarleton will have for next season.

Coach Conger talked about Moreno's talent and how he will help the Texans.

"Alvaro joins us from Cisco JC," said Conger.  "We obviously have a great relationship with David White, the head coach, and continue to be happy with the types of young men we have gotten from there.  Alvaro has hit in the three-hole for Cisco the last two years and we anticipate he will do the same here.  He is one of the more complete hitters we have seen in the last couple years and expect he will make an immediate impact in the middle of our lineup next season.”

The next signing is Jake Klauck, a 6'0", 170-pound left-handed batter from Lamar Community College.  Originally from Broomfield, Colorado, Klauck will play infield for the Texans.

“Jake continues our tradition of getting players from Coach Crampton at Lamar CC," said Conger.  "Jake brings an exceptional left-handed swing and has put up very good offensive numbers in a wood bat junior college league.  We feel Jake will be able to step in right away and add the best left-handed swing that we have recruited from the junior college ranks since we have been here.”

Rustin Thomas is another talented player Coach Conger has added to the 2013 line-up.  At 5'8", 190-pounds, Thomas is an outfielder from Cisco Junior College.

“Rusty is an absolute spark plug of a player and is going to bring the exact attitude that we want to play with," said Conger.  "He reminds us a lot of (current Texan) Ryan Small in the way he plays the game and the energy and effort he brings to the park every single day.  He will give us another above average runner, 6.6 speed, and will also bring the ability to hit very well in the LSC.”

The next player Tarleton adds is Garrett Kelly, a 6'0", 190-pound right-handed pitcher from Northeastern Oklahoma - Enid.  A native of Corpus Christi, Kelly gives Coach Conger another pitcher to put in the starting rotation.

“Garrett is a very competitive strike thrower that is going to be able to step in and compete for a rotation spot," said Conger.  "Garrett had a very good sophomore season as his team's No. 1 starter and will bring a good aggressive attitude to the mound for us. We feel Garrett will attack the zone with the confidence we like to see out of our pitchers.”

The next junior college transfer Coach Conger has added is Cameron Hooper, a 6'0", 200-pound left-handed pitcher from Cisco Junior College.

“Cam is a young man that brings an above average left-handed arm to next year's team," said Conger.  "He sits at 87-88 mph and has been as high as 91 mph this spring.  Cam is a very bright young man who is going to come in and compete for innings.  He has a tremendous attitude and we have been impressed with his team first attitude and feel that mindset is a big reason Cisco has advanced to the Juco World Series.”

These five players join the six high school players Coach Conger announced just one week prior.  The Texans will continue to build a team that Tarleton hopes will compete for another shot at the Lone Star Conference title in 2013.
