Terry shines as LSC Championships get under way

- Day 1 Results

COMMERCE - Shelby Terry shined in day one of the women's heptathlon at the Lone Star Conference Championships and sits in sixth place in the event at 2855 points with three more events to go.

The heptathlon consists of seven events and compiles a point total to determine the champion. The seven events include the 100m hurdles, the high jump, the shot put, the 200m dash, the javelin throw, long jump and 800m run.

Terry competed in the first four events today and will finish tomorrow.

In the 100m hurdles, Terry set a season-best mark of 14.84, earning her second place in her heat and fourth overall.

Terry high jumped into first place with a season-best leap of 5' 7'', topping her previous high jump mark of 5' 3'' set earlier this year.

She finished with a solid shot put throw of 27' 8'' and a 200m dash time of 26.58 - which were also season bests but just her first and second time to compete in the respective events this season.

Terry is 1545 points shy of reaching the NCAA provisional qualifying mark and 2270 points shy of tying the Tarleton school record set by Kate Wright in 2001.

The heptathlon will continue at 11 a.m. at Texas A&M-Commerce tomorrow. For live results and information, check out Tournament Central.
