Texan Cross Country picked fifth in preseason poll, TexAnns sixth

SAN ANTONIO - The Lone Star Conference held its annual media day Tuesday afternoon at the Holiday Inn - San Antonio International Airport, where they announced the preseason polls for the conference's cross country teams.

The men's cross country team will enter the season in a fifth-place tie with Angelo State while the TexAnns were voted sixth in the preseason polls.

"I don't really think preseason polls mean much except to the media," said Tarleton head coach Pat Ponder. "But we'll use this as motivation and I know our men and women will look at this poll and want to show the conference that they are better than fifth and sixth."

The Texan cross country teams return all-conference runner Chase Rathke as well as several others from a young team in 2011 while the TexAnns return all-region runner Lindsey Hinton, who was also all-conference along with Karen Ramming.

The cross country season begins August 31 with the Baylor Twilight in Waco.
