TexAnn Volleyball picked to finish fourth in 2012

SAN ANTONIO - The Lone Star Conference hosted its annual LSC Media Day at the Holiday Inn - Holiday Inn San Antonio International Airport, where they announced the preseason polls and awards for the 2012 season.

The TexAnns, coming off a 20-14 record and their second straight appearance in the LSC Championship Tournament semifinals, were picked to finish fourth in the Lone Star Conference behind West Texas A&M, Angelo State and Abilene Christian. Tarleton was picked ahead of Texas Woman's, Cameron, Midwestern State, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas A&M-Commerce, Incarnate Word and Eastern New Mexico, respectively.

"We are excited about the upcoming season and we know that regardless of where we are picked, it is going to be a battle every night," said Tarleton head coach Mary Schindler. "The LSC is a tough conference and we are hoping to put together some solid matches and compete with each team we face."

Also announced Tuesday were the preseason players of the year. Texas Woman's outside hitter Viktorija Jablonska earned Offensive Player of the Year honors while West Texas A&M's Erin Dougherty and Lacy Hayes earned Defensive Player of the Year and Setter of the Year, respectively. Tarleton's Nikki McNorton was among the finalists for the defensive honor.

The TexAnns begin the regular season August 31 against Arkansas-Fort Smith at the Colorado Mines Tournament in Golden, Colo. The TexAnns will report for fall practices in coming weeks.
