Texans add JUCO transfer Cathey-Macklin to 2012-13 squad

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton men's basketball head coach Lonn Reisman and his staff have announced the signing of junior college transfer Jon Cathey-Macklin for the upcoming 2012-13 season.

Cathey-Macklin is a 6-9, 220 pound forward from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who spent last season at Wabash Valley College.

As a sophomore last season, the post player led the team in blocks and was second on the team in rebounds.  Shooting 50 percent from the field, Cathey-Macklin led Wabash Valley to a 25-8 record and a postseason bid.

In his freshman season, Cathey-Macklin got off to a strong start to his collegiate career with nine points and eight rebounds a game.  He again shot 50 percent from the floor and led the team in both blocks (3 bpg) and rebounds.

Coming out of Washington High School in 2010, Cathey-Macklin was nationally ranked by Hoop Scoop as the 162nd best player in the country.

Head Coach Lonn Reisman talked about Cathey-Macklin's impact on the Texan line-up.

Jon brings our team a high-level athlete,” said Reisman. “He is a legitimate shot blocker that we haven't had here since 6-11 Terrence Gamble (NBDL draftee) who played for us back in 2008-09. Jon has a high motor, and paired with his athleticism, that is a rare combination to find in a 6-9 power forward at our level. Jon is very mobile and has a chance to be a double-double guy as he continues to refine his offensive skill-set. We are excited what Jon can become for us over the next two seasons. Jon is a very pleasant kid to be around and comes from a tremendous Junior College program coached by Dan Sparks.”

Cathey-Macklin joins other standout recruits Michael Hardge and Chuck Guy as newcomers for the upcoming season.
