TexAnns sweep OBU, Southeastern OK in finale

STEPHEVILLE - Tarleton swept the final day of its home invitational tournament, making quick work of Ouachita Baptist and Southeastern Oklahoma to secure a 3-1 weekend.

Nikki McNorton also earned all-tournament status after recording 40 kills and 20 blocks in the four sets of the weekend. This marks the fifth time in her career to be named all-tournament, including last weekend at Colorado Mines.

Tarleton 3, Ouachita Baptist 0

In the first game of day two, Tarleton put together an all around effort to dispatch the Tigers 25-16, 25-17 and 25-20.

Tarleton crushed the ball in the opening set to the tune of a .385 hitting percentage while holding OBU to just .133. In the second and third sets, OBU failed to record a hit percentage higher than .100 while Tarleton landed over .200 each time.

Katie Covell posted a double-double with a team-high 12 kills and 10 digs while Meg Umbel added 11 kills of her own. Danielle Barker also had a volleyball double-double with 38 assists and 10 digs. Emily Klein led the team with 16 digs.

Tarleton 3, Southeastern Oklahoma 0

The sweep party continued for the TexAnns in the tournament finale with 25-15, 25-20 and 25-18 wins over Southeastern Oklahoma.

Tarleton landed 18 kills in 40 attempts with just four errors for a .350 hitting percentage in the opening set compared to just .086 for the Savage Storm.

Both teams struggled to find open court in the second game while Tarleton won the set with a .111 hitting percentage, but the TexAnns finished strong with 20 kills in the finale on 43 attempts with just five miscues.

Covell led the team with 10 kills while Barker (34) led in assists and Lacy Hodges (14) led in digs. Kelsey Raglin (13) and Klein (10) also had double figure digs.

The TexAnns will begin Lone Star Conference action next weekend with a Friday night match against Midwestern State at 6 p.m. in Wisdom Gym.
