LAST TIME OUT
After taking the first two sets of the semifinal round Friday, West Texas A&M stormed back and appeared primed for another trip to the LSC Tournament Championship. The TexAnns had other ideas, however, as Tarleton rallied from an 11-5 deficit in the final set to win 15-13 and advance to the championship. Newly crowned LSC Freshman of the Year
Hailey Roberts led the team with 26 kills and 20 digs, which is her second 20-20 game of the year. While
Kenya Alexander, the LSC Defensive Player of the Year had 12 kills and six blocks while
Kaitlyn White landed 10 kills and made 10 digs.
Katie Covell led the team with 28 digs while the Tarleton tandem of
Emily Medlin (34) and
Chandler Gow (30) combined for 64 assists and both topped the 30-assist plateau.
TARLETON vs ANGELO STATE
This will be the 43nd meeting between the TexAnns and Rambelles since the inaugural meeting in 1978. Tarleton State has won 12; including an October 3
rd win in Wisdom Gym sending the Rambelles home in straight sets. On Nov. 16 of last year, the TexAnns battled back from a 0-2 deficit to beat Angelo State for the first time since the 2006 season. This will be the first time Tarleton has played Angelo State three times in a season.
TEXANNS AND RAMBELLES IN THE TOURNAMENT
This is the first time Angelo State and Tarleton have ever met in postseason play. ASU is playing in its fifth straight LSC final, while TSU will make its first-ever appearance.
TARLETON IN THE TOURNAMENT
In the 10th year under head coach
Mary Schindler, Tarleton State is making its eighth appearance – and the 10th appearance in the school's NCAA history. This is the first time Tarleton has advanced to the championship game.
WHAT'S AT STAKE
Tarleton is playing for a chance to play in the NCAA playoffs for the first time in school history. The TexAnns are currently the No. 6 team in the South Central region behind Colorado Mesa, Colorado Mines, Regis (Colo.) and West Texas A&M. The top eight teams in the regional rankings at the end of conference tournament championship weekend will advance to the NCAA postseason. With a win, Tarleton would earn an automatic berth into the NCAA regional tournament, which they have never qualified for in school history. With a loss, they would await an invitation as an at-large team.
UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
Tarleton will receive its fate at the NCAA Selection Show, which will be Sunday night at 9 p.m. (CST) on NCAA.com.
