STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton Football program added a slew of new Texans - literally and metaphorically - Wednesday morning as a result of National Signing Day.

Tarleton head coach Todd Whitten announced the addition of 22 new members of the Texan Football program - all from around the Lone Star State.

"I am very, very pleased with our coaching staff and the effort they put into recruiting," said Whitten. "We started off with a small staff - just three of us - travelling across the state of Texas. Coach Marcus Patton and Coach Bryson Oliver joined us later, but for the most part it was just three of us going out. Our main focus was on the offensive and defensive lines, which is very apparent in our group.

"Overall, I think we got a very good group of football players that will eventually help our program," he continued. "Very rarely do freshmen come in right away and play, and there might be one or two of these guys who can do it, but we're going to do our best to develop them. Obviously, we think they have a lot to offer us or they wouldn't have had our eye on them."

As of 12 p.m. CST on Thursday, Tarleton received the National Letters of Intent from 21 high school seniors from around the state. The Texans also announced the addition of one mid-term transfer from Cisco Junior College, who has been on campus since enrolling for the spring semester.
