Markin-Calkins played in just 11 matches as a freshman in 1988 while recording 38 sets and six digs her freshman season. As a sophomore in 1989, Markin-Calkins played in 27 matches and had 127 kills while finishing second on the team with 314 assists. She also had 24 service aces, 149 digs, 17 solo blocks and 31 block assists.

In 1990, the junior from Whitehouse recorded 93 kills and led the team with 597 assists. She also had 14 service aces, 266 digs, eight solo blocks and 29 assisted blocks. She played in 28 matches in 1991, her senior season, and recorded 161 kills after leading the team with 723 assists. She had 28 service aces, 404 digs, four solo blocks and 15 assisted blocks.

Markin-Calkins is No. 5 on the individual season record list for digs per game (3.96 in 1991) and No. 6 in digs in a season (404 in 1991). She ranks No. 4 all-time in career assists (1,634) and is No. 7 in career digs (825).
