Baskin was one of the best offensive linemen that Tarleton had during the non-scholarship days of the TIAA. He played in 41 games and started every game as a sophomore, junior, and senior. Baskin helped the Texans to a 6-4 season and the Aztec Bowl as a sophomore and a 9-1-1 season and the Sunflower Bowl title as a senior. He was a three-time selection to the All-TIAA team, an Honorable Mention NAIA All-America in 1985, and second team NAIA All-America as a senior.
