Ivey was a four year starter and outstanding linebacker for the Texans. He earned second team all-conference honors as a linebacker both in 1986 and 1987. Ivey helped his team win the 1986 Sunflower Bowl and advance to the NAIA quarterfinals in 1987. He was a Team Captain in 1987 and 1988. In 1988 he was selected the T.I.A.A. Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Don Hansen’s Football Gazette First Team All American linebacker, NAIA, NCAA III Honorable mention All-American Linebacker. Ivey was the recipient of the John Fielding Higgs Award as the Most Valuable Player on the 1988 team. Ivey led the 1986 and 1987 team in tackles with 86 and 109 respectively and was second on the team in 1988 with 95 while playing in one less game than the other top six tacklers. Ivey was still the second leading tackler in the history of Tarleton Football with 339 tackles as of the end of the 2006 Tarleton Texan football season.
