TexAnns advance to LSC semis with 2-1 win over Commerce

CANYON – Haley Freyman's dominating complete game and Alyssa Ringhausen's pinch-hit walk-off sacrifice fly lifted Tarleton Softball to the semifinals of the Lone Star Conference tournament with a 2-1 win over Texas A&M-Commerce.

The TexAnns (30-19), ranked No. 3 in the tournament, are playing in their 14th LSC tournament, the most in conference history. Tarleton will take on No. 2 Texas Woman's later today at 4 p.m.

The opening-round game of the LSC Tournament had major implications for the South Central Regional tournament with the TexAnns ranked No. 8 in the region and A&M-Commerce ranked No. 9.

Wood, a First Team All-LSC selection, led off the second inning and on the third pitch of the at-bat launched a solo home run to left to give the TexAnns a 1-0 lead.

Freyman tossed her 13th complete game of the season while surrendering only six hits and striking out three to record her 20th win of the season.

Freyman had some defensive help in the second inning when she got Commerce's Aundria Zunigia-Romero to ground into a double play and end the scoring threat.

Commerce had yet to score going into the seventh inning, but Zunigia-Romero hit a leadoff home run off Freyman to tie the score at one.

Shelby Hedrick pinch-hit for the injured Delaney Wayland to lead off the seventh and worked a walk. Taylor Fitzgerald ran for Hedrick and advanced to third after Lauren Powers' sacrifice bunt was errantly thrown into right field.

A&M-Commerce intentionally walked Melody Mayse to load the bases for Ringhausen who lined a 1-0 pitch to center field that scored Fitzgerald on the sacrifice fly and the winning run.

Katelyn Conlee and Mikayla Stogsdill each had a single for the TexAnn offense.
