2024 Texan Iron Athletic Performance

Texan Iron Athletic Performance

The Athletic Performance Weight Room is where the Texans work out by following a year-round plan to maximize their athletic potential through sound strength and conditioning training. The Mission Statement for Athletic Performance states, "Tarleton State University Athletic Performance strives to provide Tarleton Athletics the best organized and best supervised athletic performance enhancement, injury prevention, and character development program possible within NCAA guidelines." From the layout of the weight room to the writing of the workout programs and the execution of the workouts, the Tarleton Athletic Performance Staff, led by Director of Athletic Performance Bryan Klobucar, creates an environment for maximizing the athletic abilities of Tarleton State student-athletes.

At Tarleton State, we strive to coach the whole person. Required strength and conditioning activities are limited to eight hours or less a week by NCAA legislation, but the Athletic Performance strives to coach the Tarleton student-athletes on what to do in "the other 22 hours a day" and "the other 160 hours a week" to maximize the effect of the training and practice time. Taking proper care of the body - nutrition, sleep and restoration, and the mental approach to one's sport, as well as character development, are all points of emphasis.

Many student athletes stay and work out on campus during the summer to allow for the best opportunity for success in the school year. Those who are not on campus in the summer are provided a workout plan for the time that they are away to encourage that they return in the best condition possible to start the year each August. The accomplishments of Tarleton athletic teams have fostered more and more involvement in the summer program as time goes on, showing a continued commitment to athletic success.

The spacious two level Athletic Performance Weight Room underwent a major renovation in December 2015. The facility now boasts 16 Power Lift Racks with in-laid maple wood platforms, featuring the Perform-X Band System for jump and quickness training. Uesaka bumper plates, Iron Grip plates, and all the accessories to complete a workout all at one rack. The facility also houses Iron Grip dumbbells ranging from 5-130 pounds, 60 kettlebells of various sizes, two Vertimax jump trainers, as well as 11 other machines and over 70 medicine balls. The upper-level cardio area has a Cybex Arc Trainer, two treadmills, two steppers, and an elliptical trainer, upper-body ergometer, and recumbent bicycle for cardiovascular training.
