Lovings wins 110-meter hurdles... teams show well

STEPHENVILLE - Tarleton's Shaunte Lovings won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.77 in the finals of the Lone Star Conference Championship Track and Field Meet in Stephenville.

The Texan also set a new school and stadium record with the time.  He broke his own school record, but the stadium record was previously held Brian Amos of Abilene Christian who ran a time of 13.81 in 1992.

The Texans finished fifth with 53 points as ACU claimed another LSC Championship, racking up 206 points.  Angelo State (162), Texas A&M-Kingsville (121.5), Texas A&M-Commerce (69.50), Tarleton and Eastern New Mexico (38) rounded out the scoring.

The TexAnns tied for fourth in the meet with Texas A&M-Commerce.  Each school tallied 62 points.   ACU also won the women's title, scoring 290 points.  ASU was second with 167 while TAMUK was third with 98.  ENMU came in sixth with three points.

Tarleton's Duane Emery finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.62 in the finals Saturday. 

Josh Keyes was seventh in the men's 200-meter dash with a run of 22.75 in the finals while David Doyle finished eighth in the 400-meter dash with a run of 50.04.

In the 800-meter run, Jeff Pate finished sixth (1:57.88) while Bryan Ruiz was seventh with a time of 1:59.31.  Anthony Gerhard was ninth with a time of 1:59.92. He also ran the 1,500-meter run and crossed the line in 4:13.73.

In the 5,000-meter run, Kevin Emmert finished in seventh with a run of 16:12.71 while Josh Gaston finished with a time of 17:39.58.

Justin Hobbs finished third in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 52.98 seconds while Keyes was seventh with a time of 55.39. 

The Tarleton men's 4x100-meter relay finished third with a time of 41.57 while the 4x400-meter relay was fourth with a time of 3:16.28.

Adam Phillips was fifith in the pole vault, clearing 4.50 meters while teammate Chase Moore cleared 4.05 meters for sixth. 

John Black jumped 12.71 meeters to finish eighth in the men's triple jump.

Phillips finished in eighth in the javelin with a throw of 52.62 meters.  Also throwing for the Texans was Rusty Bookout (46.66 meters) and Matt Garvin (33.88 meters).

The TexAnns were led Saturday by a strong performance from the 4x400-meter relay.  The TexAnns came in second behind the Wildcats with a tim eof 3:48.66.  The provisional qualifying mark for the TexAnns was just seven seconds behind the winners. 

The 4x100-meter relay finished third with a time of 47.85 seconds, just .71 off the top mark turned in by ACU and .15 off second-place TAMUK. 

Chelsea Bradford finished eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of (12.67).

Deba Egbon finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.57 while Courtney Pleasant was seventh with a time of 25.63.  Egbon then finished third in the 400-meter dash (56.14) as teammate Pleasant crossed in 58.18 for fifth. 

Lindsay Davis was seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.41.  Kymberlee Trnka (2:29.99) also ran the event for Tarleton.

In the 1,500-meter run, Davis came in ninth (5:12.52), Claudia Castanon came in 10th (5:16.86) and Trnka in 11th (5:18.41).  Also running for the TexAnns was Stephanie Spicer (5:29.15) and Marielle Gaston (5:45.08).

Krista Morris finished third in the 3,000-meter run Saturday with atime of 11:05.61.  Castanon finished eighth with a time of 11:44.89.  Morris also finished fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:11.46.

Caitlin Warren (15.78) and Mallory Coker (15.98) finished in seventh and eighth in the 100-meter hurdles, respectively.

Coker then finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.82) while teammate Amanda Epps finished seventh with at ime of 1:13.50. 

Warren threw for 8.93 meters in the shot put while she completed a throw of 31.28 meters in the discus.  She then threw 28.72 meters in the javelin.
