CLEVELAND, Ohio ? Former Texan quarterback Richard Bartel signed with the Cleveland Browns during the Thanksgiving weekend.

According to reports on the Internet, the Grapevine native was signed to Cleveland's practice squad after the Browns lost quarterback Brady Quinn.  The Browns might be without Derek Anderson for the rest of the season as well, which means Bartel could move up to the backup role on the 53-man roster.

Bartel, who was on the Cowboys' practice squad last season and for one week this season before being waived on Sept. 8, could back up Ken Dorsey, the Browns' third starter this season.

The former Texan had worked out with a few teams this season, but he had not been signed to a roster.
