Men to travel to SWOSU Tuesday

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The No. 17 Tarleton Texans will return to the road for just the second time as they face Southwestern Oklahoma in Weatherford, Okla. on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 8 p.m.

The Texans, who are 6-1 for the first time since the 2006-07 season, are coming off an 81-49 win at home over East Central on Saturday. The Texans only loss this season came on the road at Cameron on Nov. 27 (49-44).

Tarleton is led by Corin Henry with 13.4 points per game while Devon Hills is second with 11.3 boards per game. Carrington Tankson is third with 9.2 points per outing in the last five games. Tarleton is led by Wes Dipprey in rebounds with 6.4 boards per game while Donta Smith is second with 4.1. Henry also leads the team with 17 steals and 29 assists.

Tarleton is averaging .475 from the floor, .373 from the arc and .682 from the charity stripe while opponents are shooting .323 from the field, .303 from the arc and .657 from the line. The purple and white is outscoring opponents 84.1 to 45.7 and outrebounding them 41.9 to 28.9.

The Texans are outscoring opponents in the paint by an average of 38.4 to 137 and off of turnovers by an average of 31.0 to 6.0. Of the bench, Tarleton is outscoring foes 41.9 to 15.0 and 12.1 to 2.3 in fastbreak points. 

Tarleton leads the conference in scoring defense, scoring margin (38.4), field goal percentage defense, rebounding offense, rebounding defense, rebounding margin (13.0), steals (12.7 per game), turnover margin (+12.29), offensive rebounds and offensive rebound percentage (.438).

After losing the first two games of the season, the SWOSU Bulldogs won six straight before losing at West Texas A&M on Saturday in overtime, 79-68. 

Leon Nelson leads the team with 13.8 points per game while Jeremy Lay (12.7) and Chancellor Jones (11.4) are also averaging in double figures. Chancellor is tops on the team with 5.1 rebounds per game while Ty Pace is second with 4.1 boards per outing.

The Bulldogs are shooting .452 from the field, .394 from the arc and .702 from the line while opponents are averaging .436 from the floor, .276 from the arc and .679 from the stripe. SWOSU is being outrebounded 37.6 to 33.4, but the Bulldogs are outscoring teams 76.4 to 70.8.

The two teams have met 16 times since 1961, and Tarleton leads the all-time series, 12-4. The Texans have won the last two contests, including a Dec. 19, 2009 meeting in Stephenville (78-57). The last Bulldog win came in Stephenville (81-75) while their last home victory over the Texans was on Jan. 6, 2007 (104-80).
