SAN ANGELO – The Tarleton TexAnns dropped the first game of a three-game Lone Star Conference South Division series at No. 2 Angelo State Friday in San Angelo, 6-3.
The Rambelles jumped ahead with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning before adding another three runs on two hits and two errors in the bottom of the fourth. ASU led 6-0 before the TexAnns mounted a comeback.
In the top of the fifth inning,
Tami Sutton singled to left to open the frame before a
Julie Norris single to left put runners on first and second.
Brittany Terry was out at first, but the runners advanced a base.
April Gonzalez then singled to right to score Sutton.
Victoria Kelly singled down the left field line to score Norris.
Arianna Rodriguez then singled up the middle to score Gonzalez. With two outs,
Meagan Eldridge singled to short to load the bases, but a pop out ended the rally. Tarleton trailed by three runs, 6-3.
The TexAnns then went down in order in the next two innings.
Norris sat down the first four batters she faced to open the game and then eight of the last 10. She pitched all six innings and allowed four earned runs and four walks while striking out four. The senior was also two-for-three at the plate with an intentional walk. Kelly was two-for-three with an RBI.
The two teams will return to action in a doubleheader that is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
