CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Tarleton's Kandis Brooks became an All-American for the third time in her lustrous four-year career after finishing eighth overall in the women's 100-meter hurdles at the 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Irwin Belk Track Complex in Charlotte, N.C., this weekend.
A thunderstorm pushed all of Friday's events back to Saturday and a revised schedule was made to complete the national championship on Saturday. Three sections were made in the women's 110m hurdles with Brooks competing in the second section. The Houston native came in second in her heat with a time of 13.96, which was good enough to take home eighth-place overall and second-straight All-American honor.
Brooks was an All-American in the same event last year.
Tarleton had five more events on the day, but unfortunately were unable to bring home another All-American.
Garrett Thomas, a senior running in his final national meet, finished 13th overall in the men's 110m hurdles. The two-time All-American finished third overall in the second of three sections, finishing the event with a time of 14.81.
Casey Keeter, a junior competing in two events on the day, finished 14th in the men's shot put and 11th in the discus event. He began the day with the shot put, but was unable to advance to the finals after completing the event with a toss of 16.47m.
The former All-American then finished the discus with a toss of 47.53m to finish in-between teammates Nolan and Hayden Eubanks.
Nolan Eubanks just missed the finals in the discus after completing a toss of 47.88m and finished in 10th position, the same position he finished in last season at the national meet. His brother Hayden Eubanks finished 12th overall with a throw of 46.48m.
Lone Star Conference members did very well over the weekend as the Angelo State women's team won the team national championship after netting 87 total points. Abilene Christian's women's team came in fourth overall with 38 points accumulated.
St. Augustine's men's team won the national championship for the second straight year, earning 82 points total to oust ACU's men's team, which finished with 62 points.
