TexAnns return to south action in Kingsville

KINGSVILLE - The Tarleton TexAnn softball team will return to action in a three-game Lone Star Conference South Division series at Texas A&M-Kingsville this weekend. A Friday, March 18 doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m. while the two teams will play a single game at noon on Saturday.

The TexAnns are 12-8-1 overall and tied for third with Incarnate Word with a 2-1 record in the LSC South behind Angelo State and Abilene Christian which are tied atop the standings at 3-0 each.

Tarleton is coming off a 2-1 weekend at home against Texas Woman's as the TexAnns opened LSC South play. 

This season, Rebecca Wessels is hitting .419 this season to lead the squad with 21 runs scored, 26 hits and 14-of-17 in stolen bases. Kelly (.345), Marcie Rodriguez (.316) and Kelsey Latt (.300) are all hitting at or above the .300- mark this season. Arianna Rodriguez (.273) leads the team with six doubles while Swanda (.294) tops the squad with five home runs and 19 runs batted in. The team is hitting .287 as a squad as the opponents have a combined ERA of 3.63.

Swanda has a 1.69 earned run average this season with 78.2 innings of action in the circle with a 7-4 record. She has three shutouts, seven complete games and a save. She has 20 walks and 74 strikeouts and opponents are hitting .208 off the junior pitcher. The team has a combined ERA of 2.10 while opponents are hitting .238.

The Javelinas dropped all three games last weekend at No. 1 Angelo State. TAMUK is now 17-13 overall, including a 10-3 home record.
 
Lindsey Brown leads the team with a .359 batting average while Kaycee Bryan (.352) leads the squad with 19 runs scored and 37 hits. Amanda Arriaga (.344) tops the squad with 18 RBI. The team is hitting .276 as a team while opponents have an ERA of 3.04.
 
Brown leads the team in the circle as well with a 2.39 ERA and a 5-2 record. She has pitched in 44.0 innings while walking 22 and striking out 28. Arriaga (9-9) has a 3.18 ERA in 119.0 innings of work with 41 walks and 69 strikeouts. The team has a combined ERA of 3.52 while opponents are hitting .271 against the Javelinas.
